Today in science we did a demonstration to show how sound waves move. Ask your child all of the new things that they learned about sound wave today!

In math we did a whiteboard activity to learn about how to choose a metric unit to measure with! For example, write the unit that you would use to measure the distance from Calgary to Edmonton.

In language arts we worked very hard to learn how to make our opinion paragraphs more convincing. We discussed strong vs. weak arguments, how to make weak arguments stronger, and how to make sure that our arguments are related to our topic. The students did great!

REMINDERS/UPDATES:

- please remember that if your child is bringing a bike or scooter to school, that they should also be equipped with a lock and know how to use it to ensure that their property is safe throughout the day.

- please make sure that your child is coming dressed for the weather!

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing long weekend! In math, we worked on regrouping in place value (when there is more than 10 in the ones, tens, an hundreds, you have to "regroup" to make the number make sense). Ask your child about the activity we did with the cards and their math journals today. In social studies, we began learning about the land in Tunisia. When looking at Google Earth, we noticed that the Northern point of Tunisia is all green (so it must be forest or something!), the more central areas are mountainous and the south eastern corner is desert land. Ask your child what else they learned! We learned and practiced our s-blends today, which include an s followed by another consonant (sc, sl, st, etc). Have a nice evening!

Happy Wednesday! Today in science we brainstormed a list of ways to protect our ears. Each student chose one, and made a poster about it including the way to keep their hearing safe, and how it would help. In math we continued learning about how to solve for a missing number in an equation. Our show what you know is a little long, so we will work on it tomorrow and Friday. In language arts we learned about summarizing and completed a class summary about the story "When I Was Eight". Then students created their own summaries about the novel study How to Eat Fried Worms now that they are done the story. They made notes today, and tomorrow will turn it into a cohesive piece of writing!! We also did some more work with alliteration today and the kids have been having a great time coming up with their own tongue twisters! We had our last fire drill of the year today and the students did an excellent job, exiting and entering the building quickly and quietly a well as remaining qui...

Tomorrow we will be doing our show what you know for 3D Shapes! Next week, we will be moving onto multiplication! Earlier this week in science, we learned about how animal mothers meet their offspring's needs. Today, we learned all about animal mothers who abandon their babies and the reasons why they would do so. While sometimes it seemed a little bit harsh, we realized that the reasons for doing so were actually quite logical and reasonable! We also began to learn about different types of habitats and will be doing some research on those next week. We wrote our story outlines today to come up with a logical sequence of events for the beginning, middle, and end of our stories. We did a practice run activity, using picture prompts to create a beginning, middle and end for someone else's story and the students did a fabulous job! The first Flames game is this evening - Go Flames Go!
